Member Highlight - Celebrating 70 Years of Alstom Manufacturing in Dandenong
The Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce proudly congratulates our Premium Partner, Alstom, on the momentous occasion of the 70th anniversary of its Dandenong facility. Since its establishment, Alstom has stood as a cornerstone of Victoria's rail manufacturing industry, championing innovation, collaboration, and excellence in every project it undertakes.
A Key Partner in Victoria’s Transport Evolution
The site is marking the event, its enduring contribution to Victoria’s rail industry and its role in creating skilled manufacturing jobs for generations of Victorians.
The site’s legacy has been built on a strong collaboration between Alstom, the Victorian Government, and the local workforce which has and continues to drive the State’s rail transport and infrastructure evolution.
Since its establishment, the Dandenong site has been at the forefront of local manufacturing, producing over 600 trams and 800 trains that continue to serve the people of Victoria. Generations of families, friends, experts and passionate workers have come through this site, playing their part in shaping Victoria’s transport infrastructure. Each car, wheel set and driver’s cab has been locally crafted by a dedicated team who all share in the pride of connecting the Victorian travelling community.
Today, Alstom is a key partner in delivering Victoria’s major rolling stock projects including:
- 100 Next Generation G Class Trams
- 25 X’Trapolis 2.0 metro trains
- The ongoing production of 124 VLocity trains, which Alstom has been building since 2003, with some original team members still contributing to the project today.
“Victoria is the home of rail manufacturing in Australia, and Alstom’s Dandenong site is central to this legacy,” said Pascal Dupond, Managing Director of Alstom Australia and New Zealand.
“Our contribution to Victoria’s public transport network is made possible by the skills, expertise, and dedication of our team in Australia. We are proud to continue this deep partnership with the State to deliver world-class trams and trains,” he concluded.
